Game mechanics have changed since the last DN! For more information, please check out the Google Doc for better formatting. Otherwise, please keep reading.

General Mechanics

The game begins on Night 0.
All Days last 36 hours.
The Day will last the full 36 hours unless a 75% majority vote has been reached. When a 75% majority vote is reached, the Day will end early.
Only a 51% majority is needed for someone to be lynched at the end of the Day.
Nights last 18 hours.
Phases can be shortened and extended at the behest of the Hosts.
This is especially true of Night, where the Night may be ended early if all Night Actions have been submitted.
Each phase, you may only perform one single action from your available ones, and additionally a faction action if designated by the leader of your faction.
Passive abilities are always active, do not have to be declared, and do not count as an action use.
Once you die, either from being killed or lynched, a Last Will (if found) will be posted on the next Day post.
Being roleblocked completely cancels your ability for that phase, and will be treated as if you did not use your ability at all.
Being roleblocked does NOT affect passive abilities.
Abilities always resolve at the end of their phase, and are not immediate unless specified.
There are two types of abilities: “Targeting” and “Action.”
Targeting abilities count as visiting another player. This means you will physically visit the player you are targeting in order to fully perform this action.
Action abilities do NOT count as visiting another player. This means you will not physically visit anyone in order to fully perform this action. These types of abilities will either be self-targeting or have no target.

Immunity

There are three kinds of immunity in the game. If an immune player is targeted by an action that is blocked by it, the action will fail to occur.
Night immune players cannot be killed normally, but can still be affected by some abilities which do not kill them.
Targeting a night immune player will always expend an ability use, even if the ability is not successful (i.e. the player is not killed).
Fully immune players cannot be targeted by anything, with very few exceptions.
Targeting a fully immune player is treated the same as if you have been roleblocked, and will not expend an ability use.
Lynch immune players cannot be lynched during the Day. If they are voted up, they will be asked for a Plea of Innocence. If they are then voted guilty, the Day will end without a lynch.
Outside influences for immunity are always prioritized over the player’s own abilities when it comes to resolving actions.

Roleblocking

Roleblocking is a mechanic which completely cancels a player’s ability for that phase, and will be treated as if that player did not use their ability at all.
This means if you are roleblocked when attempting to use your ability, no uses of your ability will be expended.
Being roleblocked does NOT affect passive abilities, which will always remain active.
Roleblocking someone does not inform you whether or not your target attempted to use an ability.

Imprisonment

Imprisonment is a mechanic which removes a player from the game temporarily.
Being imprisoned grants full immunity and roleblocks the target for the duration of their imprisonment..
Being imprisoned removes the target from all private chats for the duration of their imprisonment.
Being imprisoned disables the target’s ability to talk in the Night forum for the duration of their imprisonment.

Message Generation

Each ability has the potential to generate messages to both the user and to its target(s), as specified underneath each ability.
By default, a player who uses an ability will be told if their ability went through successfully (i.e. were they roleblocked or not).
If a player is roleblocked, they will be informed of such, and their ability use will be refunded.
If a player targets someone who is fully immune, they will be told that their ability failed to go through and that it has been treated as if they have been roleblocked (i.e. the ability use is refunded).
Players will never be told who attacked them.
If a player is attacked and does not die due to outside influence, they will not be informed of the attack nor the reason they survived.

Night Killing

Several roles have the ability to Night kill.
Whenever a player attempts to make a Night kill, the player will be informed whether or not they were able to successfully kill their target.
This means if the player attacks their target but their target does not die, they will be informed of such.
If their target does not die after being attacked, the player will not be told the reason why their target survived.

Last Will

A Last Will is the deceased’s last message to the public.
Last Wills are submitted to the hosts via the appropriate Discord channel.
In the event of a player’s death, the Will is published to the public.
Players may revise their Wills at any point preceding the notification of their death.
It is recommended that you try to aid your faction as much as possible with it, as you will win or lose with them regardless of being dead or alive at the end of the game.
The Mafia’s Last Wills cannot contain any information to help other factions within the game besides their own.

Death Note

Death Notes are messages crafted by players and factions with a killing ability.
When a player is victim to a killing ability, the Death Note of the player or faction who killed the victim will be posted to the public.
The killing faction may use them for purposes such as framing innocent players, misdirecting investigations, and memeing.
Players may choose not to include a Death Note with their kill.

Phases of the Day

Each Day begins with Day Phase (or Daytime). Daytime has a 36 hour deadline. During this phase, players hold a forum and discuss their recent findings. They may also cast their vote to lynch a person for that Day, or choose to skip lynching someone that day. Likewise, they may choose to abstain from voting up a player. Please be aware that abstains do not count, so the simple majority of the guilty/innocent votes will determine the outcome. Players who wish to abstain do NOT have to declare as such, as failing to vote either skip or for a player will cause the player’s vote to default to an abstain at the end of the 36 hour deadline. Players may abstain earlier by declaring such.

Players will have 36 hours to discuss their findings as well as cast their votes. A 75% majority threshold for either skipping or voting one particular person is required for the Day to end early (non-declared end-of-Day abstains do not count here). A 51% majority threshold is required for someone to be lynched at the end of the Day, excluding abstains (either by choice or by end-of-Day default).

Once the defendant’s fate has been decided, Day Phase (or Daytime) ends and Night Phase (or Nighttime) begins, and the defendant’s Last Will (if one) will be posted. Each Night will have a 18 hour deadline, and players are only allowed one post in the public group within this timeframe. Roles with Night Abilities are required to submit those Night actions during this phase. Evil factions such as the Mafia and Neutral Evils with Night kills are also required to do the same. Even if a player with a Night action does not wish to use one of their abilities that Night, please still inform the hosts so they may end Nighttime early if all other actions have been submitted. Players’ fates will be decided based on who targets them with what abilities overNight, and whether or not they are immune in some way.

If a player is killed overnight, their Last Will alongside the killer’s Death Note will be posted in the next Day thread. The player’s role will also be disclosed. The Day will then proceed as normal.
