Often, veteran players will throw around terminology that may be hard for new players to understand. If that becomes the case, consider this glossary your best friend.

3P - Third Party
Players that are not aligned with the town or mafia.

A

AI - Alignment Indicative
An action or post by a player that is indicative of whether they are aligned with the town or mafia.

B

Bandwagon
When player(s) hop onto a vote wagon.

Breadcrumbing
When a player leaves clues as to what their role is/what their night actions are, in case they die without the information being revealed.

Bussing
when a mafia-aligned player votes or pushes a fellow mafia-aligned player in order to appear as if they are town-aligned whenever the mafia-aligned player they are voting has their role revealed.

C

CC - Counterclaim
When a player claims the same role as another player.

Counterwagon
A person with enough votes on them to be considered in contention for the lynch.

D

Distancing
When two mafia-aligned players try to make it seem like they are not aligned with each other.

E

EOD
End of Day

F

Fakeclaiming
When a player claims a role that they do not have.

Flavor
The game’s theme, sometimes what roles are based off of, and creates a story usually based on what happens in the game.

Fluffposting
When a player boosts their post count with nothing of content.

Full Immunity
Nulls all abilities and factional kills that target the player.

G

Gamethrowing
When a player actively makes an action to intentionally throw the game for their alignment; examples of this can include mafia hardclaiming mafia without a strategic reason and/or revealing who the mafia team is in the thread. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY NOT ALLOWED.

H

Hammer
A vote that’s placed on a player which causes the wagon to reach majority and lynch the player that the wagon is on, ending the day phase after the vote is placed.

Hard Claim
To claim a role with there being no uncertain terms. - See Soft Claim, relevant.

Hedging
When a player does not commit to a stance and stays on the fence regarding a topic, usually the alignment of a player.

K

Kill Immunity
Nulls abilities that results in the death of the player, including factional kills.
Most often night and dawn only, unless otherwise specified.

L

Lynch or Lose (LoL)
A gamestate where-in the Town must successfully lynch a Scum during present day or they will lose the game.

M

Massclaim
An event where every player in the game claims their personal information, including but not limited to their role name, any results they may have, and any players they may have targeted. Massclaim is frequently employed as a last resort for Towns in LyLo, as the resulting danger to the power roles at Night is acceptable given that the Town may lose at the end of the Day.

Meta
Meta overall refers to the shared history and knowledge of each other's playing styles that comes from having played with each other across several games. A meta read is when someone relies on their knowledge of another player's past behavior in a certain alignment in order to form an informed read.

Modkill
When a player is killed by the host or moderator for rule breaking, inactivity, or behavioral issues during a game.

N

NAI - Not Alignment Indicative
An action or post by a player which is not indicative of whether they are aligned with the town or mafia.

Night Immunity
Nulls all abilities and factional kills that target or resolve at night.

O

OMGUS - Oh My God You Suck
When a player votes someone because the other person voted them.

P

Peek
When a town investigative uses their night action on another player, and gets information on their alignment at the end of the night phase.

Pocketing
When a player tries to gain the townread of another player, usually made by mafia attempting to pocket town

R

Roleblock
Prevents the target from resolving their ability effects. Targets do not decrease the number of uses allowed for their ability. Roleblocking a roleblock takes priority. Roleblocking immune (of any sort) players does nothing. Passive Abilities and access to chats is exempt. Roleblocking a Faction Leader with a factional kill or the designated killer of the factional kill will block the attack and the faction will be informed by dawn.

Roleclaim
A statement of what your role is. These are often feigned to alleviate suspicions on Scum roles.

S

Scum
Denotes any player whose alignment is anti-Town by nature.

Scumread
To suspect a player or players of being scum. This is used interchangeably with Sus.

SOD
Start of Day

Soft Claim
To imply that you are a role without directly stating it in the thread. - See Hard Claim, semi-relevant.

Sus
An allegation that said player is suspicious. This is used interchangeably with Scumread.

T

Townread
To suspect a player or players of being town-aligned.

Tunnel
When a player is focusing on one other player, accusing only them of being scum and generally not trying to solve the rest of the game.

V

Vanilla
A role with no special abilities. (Mafia Goon, Vanilla Townie, and Vampling all fall under this category.)

Villager
Another word for town-aligned player.

W

Wagon
Refers to the number of votes a player has that makes them a candidate for the lynch.

WIFOM - Wine in Front of Me
Originating from this scene in The Princess Bride movie, this is used to denote when someone is trying to guess or reason what choice a person made, when that person knew in advance that his/her choices would be subject to scrutiny.

Wolf
Another word for mafia-aligned players.
